Different Types of Air Mattresses: Built-In vs. External Pump

After a very long and tiring day, all you want to do is just lie own on your bed and sleep. From the stiff neck that you are having because of staring in front of the computer all day, or the back pain you are experiencing because of heavy traffic, a nice, comfortable bed is the first thing you would want to see when you get home. But right when you lay down on your bed, there’s something off.

Good air mattress

You know you need to buy a new mattress if you wake up at night from a lump on your back. If you really want a mattress that will make you feel like you are sleeping on clouds, you should check out the air mattresses available in the market. There are many different kinds of air mattresses depending on the brand and the features. It all boils down to what you prefer on a mattress.

There is a variety of air mattresses that you can choose from. Ultimately, it depends on your preferences and your budget. If you still don’t know where to start, here is a list of the different types of air mattresses.

Built-in Pump

What is a built-in pump, you may ask? As the name suggests, the pump is actually built into the air mattress itself. Is there a difference between a built-in pump and an external pump? To answer that question, here are a few pros and cons of getting an air mattress with a built-in pump.

With a built-in pump, you won’t have to assemble the air mattress before using it. It is easier to store because there are no extra parts and it also saves space. Unlike the external pump, it will occupy a larger area because of the pump being outside of the mattress.

Another feature that makes it convenient is how you turn it on. Because it is built-in, the pump is either electric or powered by a battery. That way, all you have to do is just press a few buttons and you can adjust the inflation rate accordingly. Some even have a remote which makes it even easier to turn on.

  • Cons

The only issue with a built-in pump is that it is harder to find a replacement if it malfunctions. If it needs to be repaired, you are going to need to bring the entire mattress to the store and have them fix it. If it is within your budget, then a built-in pump should not be a problem at all.

External Pump

As opposed to the previous one, an air mattress with an external pump is a mattress that is a worthy investment in the long run. It was mentioned earlier that one of the cons of having a built-in pump is replacing it if it gets damaged. With the external pump, you won’t have to bring the entire mattress to the shop. You won’t even need to bring anything back unless the damage is repairable. All you need to do is drop by the shop and get another external pump.

Another positive for external pumps is that it is relatively cheaper. If you don’t quite have the budget to buy the one with the built-in pump, you can always go for the external pump. The differences aren’t really that big of a deal to some. But then again, it is really up to you whether you want an external pump or not.

However, one disadvantage of getting an external pump is that you need to do the pumping manually. It can be a chore to pump air into it and then end up deflating it after using it. If you want a mattress that is automatic, you should definitely go for the one that has a built-in pump.

Whatever you decide, you will get something good out of it. Air mattresses are simply some of the best mattresses in the market and that is shown through the incredible features they have. From easier transport to maximum comfort, these features really do make you want to try sleeping on one. It doesn’t matter whether they have cons or not because if comfort-ability is what you are looking for, you can never go wrong with an air mattress.
